With the conclusion of our IndieGoGo campaign, we’d like to take the opportunity to thank all of our volunteers, attendees, and supporters. It’s thanks to you that we’re able to put on our events, and it’s your participation that make them so special. We set out to raise enough money to accomplish three goals: 1) Attain non-profit status, 2) secure permanent, year-round storage, and 3) open a pop-up storefront to raise money to support ourselves, provide plant and garden resources, and reach out to our community. While we didn’t reach our $12,000 goal, we did raise enough money to accomplish the first major goal: to pay for our legal & accounting fees in order to secure our status as a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization. This is a huge step for us, as it paves the way for future fundraising drives by allowing us to accept tax-deductible donations year-round, from individuals, businesses, and other organizations, as well as apply for grant funding. In addition, we will be able to file for tax-exempt status, which will provide additional rewards to the companies and people who are already donating to our plant-loving, informal association of members. Finally, there will be a legal entity behind The Plant Exchange, allowing us to enter into business dealings, form contracts, and own property. We’ve put a lot of effort into the campaign since we launched it at our last Plant Exchange event on October 18. We raised [just under/over] $2,000. In the process, we’ve consolidated our online presence, expanded our social media following, and produced two stellar new videos about The Plant Exchange. We will be sending out perks to our IndieGoGo backers in the next few weeks. Thank you for all of your support, we sincerely hope to see you at the next Plant Exchange in March.
