Kaiser Permanente Joins The Plant Exchange for Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service1/19/2017 The Plant Exchange and Ability Now Bay Area, with the help of Hands on Bay Area, participated in Kaiser Permanente’s annual MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 16th. 60 physicians, staff, family, and friends lead by East Bay Kaiser Permanente came together in service to honor Dr. King’s legacy and his commitment to improving lives by mobilizing communities. Dr. King devoted his life to advancing equality, social justice, and economic opportunity for all. He challenged us to build a more perfect world and taught us that everyone has a role to play. By volunteering to meet the needs of the community in which it serves, Kaiser Permanente put Martin Luther King’s words into action. The spirit of teamwork, neighborhood building, and advancing community goals bloomed alongside plants, trees, laughter and smiles. Volunteers completed a wide variety of projects including:
Building raised planter beds, Re-stripping parking lot Constructing and staining shelves, Painting hallways and dining room Assembling rainwater capture tank, Painting large signs Planting trees, Watering plants
Kaiser’s MLK Day of Service is a reminder to each of us to join our neighbors in tackling community challenges, developing local leaders, and building stronger communities.
