​How can my organization get free plants?

It’s easy. See our guidelines (link) for organizations and fill out the simple online application. We will need a request letter on your letterhead and your tax ID #.

When can I come to pick up plants?

 We will send you an email announcing the date and time of the pick up. Generally this will be the 2nd Sat. of every month at 1:15pm. You must RSVP by email within 48 hrs of the pick up date. Then, bring a copy of the confirmation email to gain entry to pick up your plants.

What if I can’t come on the pick up date?

 If you can’t come on the pick up date you will have to wait another month until the next plant release.

How often can I pick up plants and is there a limit to the number of plants?

 Plants are distributed on a first come, first serve basis each month. We have a variety of plants in all sizes mostly indoor. Ideally you will want 10 or more plants. (Yes, we have a lot!)

​Do you hold or deliver plants?

No, we do not hold plants or provide deliveries. You must come with an appropriate vehicle to pick them up and helpers, if needed, to load your vehicle.

What kind of plants will I be getting?

Plant inventory changes regularly and plants are distributed on a first come, first serve basis.

Plants range in size from desktop to 6 ft. tall. Plants we typically have are Bromeliads, Pothos, Corn Plants, Orchids, Dracaenaes, Rhapis, Succulents, Snake Plants, Bamboo, and Zebra Plants.

Where do these plants come from?

We receive donations from local nurseries, landscapers, and plant leasing agencies.

Do you provide gardening help or plant care?

 We do not have that capability at this point.

However, if you are interested in learning more about caring for plants, consider joining our volunteer gardening crew that meets twice a week. As part of our "Plant Squad", you will work alongside experienced gardeners and learn the ins and outs of pruning, watering, repotting, and general plant care. Is there a way to purchase more plants?

The Plant Exchange holds special fundraising plant sales on the 2nd Sat. of each month. Plants are between 50 and 60% off retail prices. You can also set up a private appointment by calling 510-866-8482 or sending an email to connect@theplantexchange.com
